Have you heard about the new platform and want to know more about it? We have put together top questions around the new platform for you below:
What's the new platform?
The new platform is an updated version of the technology that powers everything from tutor matching and bookings to lessons and pay. It works in much the same way to the classic platform that you’re used to, with a familiar look and feel. It's built on technology with the power to support a larger number of students.
You’ll notice some small improvements and tweaks, but overall, it should feel intuitive and easy to use if you're familiar with the classic platform.
Why are we moving to a new platform?
We’ve been working hard on a new and improved platform designed to offer a better experience for both tutors and families. After extensive testing with groups of tutors and customers, the feedback has been overwhelmingly positive. The new platform is faster, more intuitive, and gives us the flexibility to roll out helpful new features more quickly. We're excited to bring these improvements to everyone.
When will it happen?
Over the next few months, we’ll be inviting all eligible tutors currently on the classic platform to move over to the new platform in batches. This will ensure you're ready for September 2025, when all new customers will be using the New platform. We’ll also be inviting some school tutors to join from August 2025.
Why is no new work coming on the classic platform from September?
We’re making this change because the new platform is better equipped to meet the needs of both tutors and students. It’s faster, easier to use, more reliable, and allows us to build better features more quickly. By focusing all our efforts on one platform, we can provide a smoother experience and more opportunities for everyone.
What if I haven’t been invited yet?
Over the summer, we’ll be steadily increasing the number of new customers joining the new platform, whilst also decreasing the number of customers joining with the classic platform. We want to make sure that we’re able to help as many tutors find work as possible, so we’ll invite tutors in line with the amount of work on each platform.
If you’re eligible to be a private tutor, but haven’t received an invitation to join the new platform by 1st September 2025, please reach out to us.
Am I eligible for the new platform?
The requirements for the new platform are the same as for the classic platform.
To be eligible, you’ll need an up-to-date DBS check and at least a B grade at A-Level (or equivalent) in any subject you tutor.
How will I be invited?
When we’re ready for you to be invited, you’ll be sent an email to your personal email address with the subject: “You're invited to join our new platform - here's your login”.
What will happen to my existing customers?
Don’t worry, although all new customers will be on the new platform from September, we don’t want to disrupt any of your current customers' tutoring, so we’ll keep our classic platform active. All their lessons will continue on the classic platform as normal.
As a result, if you have existing customers, you’ll need to tutor across both platforms for a time - we know switching between platforms could be a pain, so we’ve made it easy for you to switch between the two platforms right from your home page.
All school's lessons will continue on the classic platform as normal.
How do I manage bookings between the classic platform and the new platform?
The classic platform shares your bookings with the new platform — but not the other way around. That means it’s important to keep your availability up to date on the new platform each week to avoid getting booked when you’re not free.
If there's ever a clash between bookings, don’t worry — we’ll email you so you can sort it out quickly.
How can I find out more about the new platform?
Every week in the tutor newsletter, we publish updates about the big changes we’re making and what’s coming soon. You can also connect with other tutors to discuss in the community and check out our other FAQ pages.
What if I have an outstanding DBS loan?
You’ll continue to pay this off through your lessons on the classic platform.
If you work solely on the new platform, the DBS repayments won’t automatically come out of your pay, but we’ll contact you to repay the remaining balance. If you want to pay it off all in one go, you find out how to do that here.
Do we have any training in the Academy on the new platform?
Yes! All training is still available in the Academy on the classic platform. You can access it by switching back to the classic platform or by using the links we’ll send you in emails and other comms.
We’re also updating existing courses to reflect changes on the new platform, so even if you’ve completed them before, it’s worth doing a quick refresher once you’ve been invited. Key courses to check out include:
Running a successful study plan consultation
Responding quickly to parents
Subjects and availability training
Handling a lesson request
Maximising your customer’s potential
What happens to my existing reviews on the classic platform?
If you have reviews on the classic platform, some of them have been migrated over to the new platform, but not all. At the moment, parents using the new platform aren’t able to leave reviews, and they can’t return to the classic platform to do so.
The good news is that review functionality will be added to the new platform after the start of the new academic year. Keep an eye on the “New platform updates” in the newsletter to stay up to date!
How does payment work on the new platform?
All payments on the new platform are made through our third-party provider, Stripe. To get paid, make sure you’ve set up your Stripe account. See how to do this here.
You’ll be paid every Tuesday for lessons you completed the week before.
It can take up to 7 days for your first payment to land in your bank account, so there’s a one-week delay at the start. After that, you’ll be paid weekly like clockwork.
For more information on how payments work, check out our help article ‘How payment works’.
We’re keen to hear what you think.
