I'm a new tutor. When does the DBS Process Start?
The DBS module will unlock automatically after the results of the ID check in your interview have been processed.
Here's what happens next:
1. Getting Started
You'll first see a short introduction explaining:
Why DBS checks are important
How to apply
What to do if you already have a DBS check
Then you’ll be asked:
Have you lived overseas in the last 5 years?
Do you already have a DBS check?
Your answers will determine the next steps.
2. If You Already Have a DBS Check
We’ll ask you a few questions to confirm whether your existing DBS is valid:
a) When was your DBS issued?
It must have been issued within the last 12 weeks, unless you’re on the DBS Update Service.
b) Are you registered with the DBS Update Service?
You can continue if:
Your DBS was issued within the last 12 weeks,
ORYou’re registered on the DBS Update Service
Next, we’ll check:
Your DBS is an Enhanced check
It shows “None recorded” under the Children’s Barred List
If either of these checks fails, you’ll be asked to apply for a new DBS check.
3. If Your DBS Passes Validation
You’ll be asked to:
Self-declare any convictions
Enter your DBS certificate number
(We auto-fill the first two digits to avoid confusion)Upload a photo of your DBS certificate
(We’ll give you tips on how to take a good photo!)
Once you’ve uploaded your certificate:
Click Submit to send your details for review
You’ll see a confirmation message
What Happens Next:
If your DBS is approved → ✅ Module marked Complete
If it’s not approved → ❌ You’ll be asked to upload again
4. If You Need to Apply for a New DBS
If you don’t have a valid DBS, you’ll be guided through the application process.
You’ll need to provide:
Any previous legal names
Your mother’s maiden name
The town and country where you were born
A self-declaration of convictions
Agreement to the DBS terms and conditions
Once you’ve submitted everything, we’ll show a confirmation message.
If anything goes wrong, you’ll get a clear error message with guidance on how to fix it.
🆔 What ID Documents Do You Need?
During your onboarding (or when completing a Willo ID check), you’ll be asked to verify your identity and provide some employment history.
Please have the physical copies of these documents ready:
If you're a UK or Irish Citizen:
