If you or your private student cannot make the agreed lesson time, you can request a change to the lesson.
The options available depend on how much notice there is before the lesson starts:
More than 24 hours before the lesson: You can reschedule or cancel the lesson.
24 hours or less before the lesson: You can only suggest a reschedule. This is because payment is automatically charged 24 hours before the lesson starts.
How do I change a private lesson more than 24 hours before it starts?
To edit a lesson, you can either:
Go to Bookings and select Edit next to the lesson you want to change.
Go to your Messages with the parent or student and select Edit under the lesson.
You can then choose to:
Reschedule the lesson.
Cancel the lesson.
What happens if I need to change a lesson within 24 hours?
If there are 24 hours or less until the lesson starts:
You can only suggest a reschedule.
The parent or student must accept or decline the rescheduling request.
If the parent declines the request or does not accept it, the lesson will be automatically refunded, and you will not receive payment for that lesson.
If you need to cancel the lesson, you can refund the lesson immediately after the original scheduled end time.
If you need to make a last-minute change, communicate with the parent or student as soon as possible to avoid disappointment.
What happens if a parent requests a lesson change?
Parents have the same options as tutors when requesting a change.
If the request is made less than 24 hours before the lesson:
Accept:
The lesson will be rescheduled, and you will be paid for the new lesson.
Decline:
You will be paid for the original lesson. You must still attend the first 15 minutes of the scheduled lesson.
If the request expires, you may miss out on payment, so keep an eye on your messages.
Accepting changes with less than 24 hours’ notice is your choice. You can set your own boundaries with parents around late cancellations or changes.
Can I set boundaries around cancellations?
Yes. As a private tutor, you can decide your own approach to late changes or cancellations.
For example, you may choose not to offer refunds for cancellations made with less than a certain amount of notice.
You can also ask other tutors for advice in the tutor community.
What should I do if technical issues stop a lesson from going ahead?
If a lesson cannot go ahead because of technical difficulties, check the Quick fixes for lesson issues first for possible solutions.
If you cannot resolve the issue, contact the MyTutor team through Live Chat.
We recommend spending around 5 minutes trying to resolve the technical issue. If the issue cannot be fixed, refund and reschedule the lesson.
Unfortunately, we cannot provide refunds for technical issues outside of our control.
