I'm a Tutor article! Check to see what we can and can’t accept as documents

Updated today

We need a proof of address, first proof of identity (a passport), and a second proof of identity to help you get a DBS check! But, each document has some specific criteria to be approved.

Providing proof of address is a necessary step in the DBS check process. It is required to meet identity verification standards mandated by the Disclosure and Barring Service.

The DBS check requires specific identity documents to verify who you are. These documents must meet certain criteria to be accepted. It's important to understand these requirements before submitting your application to avoid delays.

You will need three types of documents: proof of address, primary identification (typically a passport), and a UK driving license.

Accepted examples include:

  • A bank statement (PDF format, downloaded directly from your online banking app or website)

  • Other official documents showing your address issued within the last three months.

First proof of identity - passport

Your passport must:

  • Be valid and current, from any country

  • Not expire within the next 3 months

  • Clearly show the entire identity page

  • Not have any glare/reflections

Second proof of identity -

This document must:

  • Be a Driving or provisional licence

  • Not expire within the next month

  • Clearly show the entire document

  • Not have any glare/reflections

  • Be a driving licence.

After submitting your proof of address and other required documents, they will be reviewed for compliance. If approved, you will receive an email with a link to proceed with the DBS application. Should revisions to your submitted documents be needed, you will be informed promptly, and upon resubmission, a new link will be sent to progress your application.
