When you’re officially a MyTutor tutor, you’ll mainly be supporting GCSE and A-Level pupils to prepare for their exams. Some of this work might include helping them with exam-style questions, as well as covering the course content they need to answer them.

We’ve prepared a list of questions for you to use for your Q&A to showcase how you’d help your pupils in lessons. Choose one in a subject you'd be tutoring from this list for you to teach in your Q&A.

English GCSE

  • What is the difference between form and structure in poetry?

  • How does Shakespeare present Lady Macbeth as a powerful woman?

  • How does the poet use language to present war in the stanza below?

Three days before Armistice Sunday

I pinned one onto your lapel, crimped petals,

spasms of paper red, disrupting a blockade

of yellow bias binding around your blazer.

Maths GCSE

  • The first five terms of an arithmetic sequence are:

    Explain how to find the expression, in terms of n, for the nth term of this sequence.

  • How can I identify triangles that are congruent and similar to each other?

  • What is 0.65 as a fraction? Give your answer in its simplest form.

  • Find the value of 64^-1/2

Science GCSE

  • Explain how a stimulus can result in a reflex reaction

  • Describe the difference between an animal cell and a plant cell

  • Explain how pressure can affect the rate of reaction

  • Explain how fractional distillation separates crude oil into fractions

  • Describe the difference between longitudinal waves and transverse waves

  • Explain how you would find the answer to the following question: A woman has a mass of 80kg and climbs to the top of a ladder which is 8m high. How much gravitational potential energy has the woman gained where g = 10 N/kg?

Psychology GCSE

  • Evaluate the multi-store model of memory, looking at strengths and weaknesses

History GCSE

  • Describe two problems Hitler faced when establishing his dictatorship after January 1933

  • Describe two features of government in Early Elizabethan England.

Sociology GCSE

  • Identify and explain one disadvantage of using official statistics to understand the extent of crime committed by women.

Business Studies GCSE

  • Explain how motivation impacts employee productivity in a business.

Economics GCSE

  • Analyse the impact of a rise in interest rates on consumer spending

Foreign Language GCSE (can apply to any language)

  • How would you teach the conjugation of the verb "to be" in the target language?

Geography GCSE

  • Explain the causes and effects of tropical storms.

Top Tip

Remember to pretend like you’re teaching a student in a lesson - we know it can feel silly, but the more you pretend, the easier your teaching skills will come through.
