Timing your interview recordings

I'm a Tutor article! Getting ready to record your interview videos? Here’s everything you need to know about getting the timing just right.

Time to think 🧠

So you feel ready for each question, we’ll give you some time to think about your response before you hit record.

The timer at the top of the question includes the entire time you’ll have to think, prepare, record (and re-record) your answers.

Be ready for the ID and employment history questions. Make sure to have your passport or share code, and provisional or driving licence on hand for the digital ID check. You’ll need to use a smartphone for this part. You’ll only be able to record this part once.

It’s important you give yourself enough time to complete each question, so take a look below for a guide on how long to spend on each question:

  • 5 minutes to think about and record your response about your motivations

  • 20 minutes to think about and record your teaching scenario question

  • 5 minutes to think about and record the final teaching scenario questions

And remember, you don’t need to use your full thinking time. Hit record whenever you’re ready to respond.

Another take 🎥

To make sure you’re happy with your responses, you’ll have the chance to re-record them.

  • For your digital ID check you will have 1 chance.

  • For your employment history responses, we’ll give you as many chances as you need to re-record your response.

  • For all other questions, you’ll have 1 more chance to record your response.

Remember, we don’t expect the videos to be perfect! You can either re-record your answer straight away or wait until the end and review which ones you want to re-record instead.

Good luck with your recordings!
