Getting started with the lesson space

Become an expert in using Lessonspace by following this video tutorial series. You’ll learn about the different features, tips and tricks to use in your online lessons.

Joining the Space for the first time

Follow this guide on how to join a Space. Make sure you have given permission to your browser to Allow for audio and video. You can troubleshoot any problems you have by clicking on the gear icon > Troubleshooting in the right-hand side menu. You should be ready for your lesson when you get the message Everything looks good!

What are the features of the lesson space?

Take a look below at the fantastic features of our lesson space!

Lobby

Now let’s get familiar with some of the basic features of the Space. When a user first joins, you’ll arrive in what’s called the Lobby. The Lobby is the waiting area where you can get ready before your lesson. In the Lobby, you can test your microphone, speakers and video. When you’re all set, click Join.

Tabs

In a Space, you can have two different types of tabs: Document Tab and Whiteboard. These are where you can interact with your notes and work together with your tutor throughout your lesson. You can see your tutor's cursor move and they can see yours.

There are many awesome features on the whiteboard, read here to explore them all.

Student Dashboard

After being added as a pupil on the Lesson space, you can log in to your student dashboard to access your spaces and more. On your dashboard, you can see all the spaces you've ever joined. The sessions list all the sessions you've had with your tutors.

Chat

The chat makes it easy to help you speak to your tutor if you can't hear or are having technical issues and you need to reach out to them.

You can type into the chat, press Enter to send, and post links, questions and homework in the chat that you can come back to in your next lessons.

Leading mode

If your tutor enables Leading mode in the lesson, it means that wherever they go in a Space, you, as the pupil, will be pulled into that same tab. To go to a different tab, ask your tutor to disable Leading mode.

Exiting the Space

To leave a Space click on the cross in the top tab in your browser. You can review your work at any time by re-clicking on your Lesson Link.

Accessing lesson recordings

It’s easy to build a great rapport during tutorials, and lessons are recorded for students to watch later - perfect for revision and online safety.

You can easily access your lesson recordings on the lesson space dashboard by following the steps in this guide.

What if I need help with technical issues?

We know that if you are using an iPad it works best in landscape mode, so make sure you are using this if you are working from an iPad.

You can see if you have connectivity and video issues in the space via the troubleshooting menu.

You can also try our quick fixes for lesson issues article for all other troubleshooting. It runs through common problems we see reported and fixes we know can work for them.
