Identity check tips & tricks

I'm a tutor article! Check out tips and tricks for your identity check as part of your tutor application.

Updated over 3 months ago

When you initiate your application, you will complete an identity check. This check includes providing your passport, a 2nd proof of identity and proof of address.

You’ll need to have these documents to hand before you start your application.

📑 Each section of your application has specific requirements; here are some tips specific to each section. These tips have come from common errors in applications that we have seen so far.

📷 Passport picture - Here are some examples of issues which prevent the image from being clearly visible:

  • Information is not visible; make sure when holding your ID that all information is still visible. Ensure your fingers or hands are not covering any details or the photo when holding your ID.

  • Clearly show the entire identity page; make sure your picture is not zoomed in or cropped - the four corners need to be visible.

  • Image is not clearly visible; make sure there is no glare or reflection over your picture or any of the details. This can inhibit the view and would require you to resubmit if it cannot be processed.

  • Don't use filters. Filters alter the image and can make an image of ID difficult to verify.

🛂 2nd proof of identity - When submitting your 2nd proof of identity you will need to make sure you follow these tips.

  • Make sure your face and ID are visible in the picture. Make sure your ID is clear and all details are viewable (no fingers covering the details).

  • Remove any obstructions like sunglasses, hats, masks etc, as your face must be clearly shown in the image.

  • The image must be clear, with no glare or reflection, to ensure that all the information on the document is visible.

🏠 Proof of address - We require your address history for 5 years in your application at the DBS section; following these tips can ensure that this section is completed in full and avoid further delays to your application.

  • Do not include any gaps in your address history.

  • Every date should coincide with the previous locations' end dates.

  • Once you provide your current address, you can then provide the rest of your address history.

  • The application has autofill which helps in this section. If you fill in the details manually make sure to check over them before moving to the next section of your application.

✍️ Correct information input - We know typos can happen, make sure to read over and check all details are correct before submitting your application.

Failure to do so will delay your application or may result in a failed ID check.

  • Review details to ensure they are all correct before submitting

  • Make sure what is on your documentation is input on your application; include middle names if they are on your documentation, and avoid using nicknames.
