Why do we verify your identity?
To comply with Department for Education requirements, we complete identity and right-to-work checks for all potential tutors. These checks help keep tutors, pupils and schools safe.
What documents do I need for my digital ID and right-to-work check?
The first part of your interview is a digital ID and right-to-work check.
You must have your physical documents ready before starting your check.
If you are a UK or Irish citizen, you will need:
Your passport.
A provisional or full driving licence.
A smartphone.
If you are not a UK or Irish citizen, you will need:
Your passport.
Your share code to prove your right to work in the UK.
A provisional or full driving licence.
A smartphone.
If you cannot provide the required documents, your ID check will fail, and you will not be able to continue with your tutor application.
You can only complete the digital ID check once, so make sure you are ready before starting.
What do I need for my DBS check?
As part of your tutor application, you will also need to complete a DBS check. For this, you must provide your address history for the last 5 years.
Your address history is separate from your ID documents and is required as part of the DBS check.
To avoid delays:
Do not leave gaps in your address history.
Make sure each address starts when the previous address ends.
Enter your current address first, followed by your previous addresses.
If you complete the details manually instead of using autofill, check that all information is correct before continuing.
Tips for uploading your documents
Each part of your application has specific requirements. These tips can help prevent delays or failed ID checks.
How do I provide my passport?
When providing your passport:
Make sure all information is clearly visible.
Do not cover any details or your photograph with your fingers or hands.
Show the entire identity page, with all four corners visible.
Make sure there is no glare or reflection on the image.
Do not use filters, as these can alter the image and make your ID difficult to verify.
How do I provide my second form of ID?
When providing your second form of ID:
Make sure your face and ID are clearly visible.
Ensure all details on your ID can be read.
Remove any obstructions such as sunglasses, hats or masks.
Make sure there is no glare or reflection on the image.
How do I check my application details?
Before submitting your application:
Review all information you have entered.
Make sure your details match your documents.
Include any middle names shown on your documents.
