New Platform: How to write your “about me”

I’m a Tutor article! Advice for, and examples of, what to write in your “about me” section on your new platform profile.

Updated over 2 weeks ago

Think of the “about me” section on your profile as your CV (and later, your pitch will be your cover letter).

This section is where you tell potential customers all about yourself, your experience, and what makes you a great tutor.

Stuck on what to write in your 'About you'? Don't sweat it. Customise our prompt and run it through an AI tool. It'll give you a starting point that you can always freshen up later when you have more time. Want to write it on your own, check out these guidelines to help reel those customers in...

  1. What customers are looking for

Over the years we’ve been bringing you customers, we’ve learnt a thing or two about what tends to capture their attention and lead to booked lessons.

Here’s a checklist of what we recommend you include:

    • How many months/years of tutoring experience you have (make sure to include the work you’ve done on our Schools Programme)

    • Specific examples of how you’ve successfully helped learners in the past

    • How you plan and deliver lessons (e.g. I plan each lesson around your child's goals and use step-by-step explanations and practice to build confidence.)

    • What makes you a great tutor (something like: With a positive attitude and structured lessons, I help learners feel confident, even with topics they find challenging.)

    • What exam board you specialise in and any texts you can help with

    • Your educational background, including degree course and career aspirations

    • If you have any additional experience (such as working with SEN learners)

    • Any hobbies or interest which learners might relate to

  2. What works for other tutors

Sometimes the best way to write your 'About me' is to see how others do it. Take a look at four real 'About me' blurbs written by some of our most successful tutors on the platform. Each one is a great example of how to be clear, confident, and personal.

    Notice how they all:

    • Show personality

    • Describe a clear tutoring approach

    • Highlight experience and passion for the subject

As you read through, ask yourself:

    • What do I like about the tone and style?

    • How does the tutor explain how they teach?

    • What makes the blurb feel trustworthy and engaging?

Use these as inspiration to write your own, confident 'About me' that shows who you are and why you're a great tutor.
