How do I get more school opportunities?
How do I get more school opportunities?

I'm a Tutor article! Are you concerned that you can’t see any new opportunities and wondering how to get more? Read on!

Updated over 6 months ago

We release lessons as school opportunities, but we’re careful to not offer them to all of our tutors at once. We have thousands of active tutors and don’t want a crazy rush. You can read more about how we allocate opportunities here.

So, how do you get the first pick?

All tutors have a priority status from Priority 1 to Priority 3. Tutors with Priority 1 are offered opportunities first.

All new tutors start on Priority 2 status. But you always have the opportunity to move up if you work on the above.

We’ll email you at the start of each month to let you know what status you’re at.

To get a higher priority status, you need to:

  • Boost. When you boost, you’ll be bumped up the ranking for new opportunities, relative to tutors who aren’t boosting.

  • Update your availability. If you’ve told us you’re unavailable or are already teaching, you won’t see opportunities at that time. The majority of school lessons happen between 2pm and 5pm, around the end of the school day, so being available then ups your chances the most.

  • Update your levels & subjects. Core subjects (Maths, English, Sciences) at GCSE make up most of our lessons, so offering these increases your chances of seeing opportunities the most.

  • Keep showing up to any lessons you do have on time, and stay for the whole duration. Your behaviour on-site impacts your priority status for new opportunities. So doing these things will mean you’re top of the priority list and you’ll see opportunities before tutors who are below you.

  • Remember that we try to distribute lessons fairly between our whole base. So if you don’t have work right now, you’ll receive a boost to your ranking for new opportunities.

And remember:

  • Lessons ebb and flow throughout the year, with more around exam time and less during the summer.

  • We have certain expectations of our tutors and not meeting these expectations can also affect your work. If you need a reminder of these, check out our:
