What are cover lessons?

I'm a Tutor article! We have two types of cover lessons: in-lesson opportunities and cover slots.

Updated over a week ago

We have two types of cover lessons:

  • In-lesson opportunities when your pupil hasn’t turned up

  • Cover slots you can accept ahead of time

Cover opportunities show up on your Schools Opportunities page. They’re one-off lessons, where the original tutor has let us know they can’t make it. They’ll leave lesson notes so you’ll be able to prepare ahead of time, just picking up where they left off.

In-lesson cover opportunities pop up if you’re in the lesson space and your pupil hasn’t turned up, and there’s also a pupil out there waiting for their tutor. We match you up to make sure pupils get help, and you get paid.

If you accept the opportunity, you’ll provide a one-off cover for the remainder of the lesson. You’ll receive £10 for delivering a lesson with no prep.

And don’t worry about leaving the original lesson space before the full 55 minutes is up when you take an in-lesson opportunity. You’ll be helping out a pupil who’ll otherwise be twiddling their thumbs. We’d never penalise you for that.
