I'm a Tutor Article! What to expect from customer reviews and how to respond

Updated over a week ago

What can I expect from a parent review?

Reviews are a way for parents and students to express their thoughts on your ability to teach a lesson, your conduct and professionalism. We expect each review to be honest and fair.

Parents will usually check your reviews before requesting a free meeting, so we recommend you build up a good amount on your profile. You can do so by proactively asking any parents and students you work with to leave you a review.

Top tip: replying to reviews shows parents you are responsive, enthusiastic and motivated to deliver high-quality work.

When can a parent leave a review?

Parents and students can review a lesson up to one month after it has taken place. They can also leave a general review for you on your profile page.

Responding to a review

Why & how should I respond to a review?

If you receive some positive feedback, as mentioned above we recommend that you publicly thank parents for it. Because it shows other parents that you’re responsive.

And if you’ve received some constructive feedback, it’s still a good opportunity to reflect and respond with your point of view.

You can always contact our support team via Live Chat for guidance in writing a good response, or if you feel the customer’s feedback was written unfairly.

It can also be useful to ask other tutors for advice on how they’ve handled similar situations in our tutor community.

How to respond to a review?

  1. Click your profile icon and go to Reviews.

  2. Find the relevant review and click Reply.

Please note that we can and will remove tutor public replies for the following reasons:

  • If the reply contains offensive or inappropriate language

  • If the reply contains false information or is not reflective of the experience

  • If the review relates to an experience which breaches our safeguarding policy

  • If you, the tutor, ask to remove the response.

If you’re concerned about a review, please read this article to see what we recommend.

Removing a review

Can I remove a review?

In the interest of honesty and fairness, you can’t remove a review yourself.

What can I do if I get a disappointing review?

We recommend you do one of three things:

  1. Message the parent or student directly for further information. You might be able to resolve any concerns together. Often we’ve seen that parents may edit or delete their review after some constructive discussion.

  2. Publicly respond to the review. It shows great maturity and professionalism to be able to take on constructive feedback and respond appropriately.

  3. If you feel the review has breached our policy, contact our support team via Live Chat. We’ll take a look and decide if it should be removed.

The most important thing to remember is that is why we have reviews in the first place. They’re a way for customers to express their thoughts on your teaching.

Other parents will check them before purchasing lessons, so it’s important they accurately reflect our customers’ experience.

Can a review be removed?

Yes, if we think the review breaches our policy guidelines. To do so, please contact our support team via Live Chat and they’ll investigate.

The reasons we may remove a review:

  • If the review contains offensive language.

  • If the parent or student has asked us to remove it.

  • The lesson has since been refunded.

  • If you’ve spoken to the parent or student in your account messages, they’ve agreed to the removal.

  • If the review contains false information or is not reflective of the experience.

  • If the review relates to an experience which breaches our safeguarding policy.

  • If the review has been left on your profile more than a month after your last lesson together.

  • If the parent has left more than one negative review in a row on your profile - this would be considered ‘spamming’.

  • If the review relates to a MyT policy that you, as the tutor, have upheld or if the situation involves tutor discretion.

We won’t remove a review just because you’re disappointed with the rating or feedback.

What is the timeframe for the review investigation and outcome of removal?

Once we receive a request to remove a review from either a parent or tutor, we’ll look into the situation to make a fully informed decision. Please allow a minimum of a week for us to get back to you with an outcome.

Of course, if the matter is more complex and requires further investigation, it may take a little longer. But we’ll keep you updated and informed throughout this process.
