Why can't I hear anything in my lesson?

There are a few reasons why your sound or audio might be affected during your lesson. Meaning that you can’t hear the other person, or they can’t hear you.

Give our quick fixes a go first - they solve a lot of common issues! If these don’t do the trick, try the suggestions below to get you back on track.

  • Check your volume isn’t muted

  • Check your speakers/headphones are correctly connected

  • Check your sound in another site, eg. YouTube

  • Fully close all tabs and reopen the browser! Believe it or not, other tabs can interfere with your audio too!

  • Ensure that you're not using an incognito broswer tab

  • Check the Sound Settings/Preferences on your device

    • Windows - go to Settings > Sound > Advanced sound options

    • Mac - go to System Preferences > Sound > Output

  • Try a different audio output device, eg. a different wired headset

  • Restart your computer. If you have time, this really solves a lot of problems!

Chrome

  1. Click on the three vertical dots in the upper-right corner of your Chrome browser to open the menu.

  2. Select "Settings" from the dropdown menu.

  3. Scroll down and click on "Privacy and security" in the left sidebar.

  4. Under "Privacy and security," click on "Site settings."

  5. Find and click on "Microphone" in the "Permissions" section.

Edge

  1. Click the three horizontal dots (ellipsis) in the upper-right corner of the Edge window to open the menu.

  2. Scroll down in the menu and click on "Settings."

  3. In the left sidebar, scroll down and click on "Cookies and site permissions."

  4. Under "Permissions," click on "Microphone."

  5. Here, you can toggle the switch next to "Microphone access for this device" to either enable or disable microphone access for all websites in Edge.

Safari

  1. Launch the Safari browser on your Mac.

  2. Go to Safari Settings (Top left corner)

  3. Go to 'Privacy" > Manage Website Data > Select "MyTutor' website and click "Remove".

This will reset data stored for the MyTutor website and also restore your permissions to default. Re-open the browser and try again.

Other Browsers

  1. Please go to "Settings" of your browser, navigate to Privacy/Security section and go to "Permissions" tab.

  2. You'll see a list of permissions settings, including microphone and camera access.

  3. To reset audio permissions, find and click on "Reset Permissions" for the "Microphone" option.

Close and reopen your browser for the changes to take effect.

We recommend spending 5 minutes trying to troubleshoot. If these tips didn’t do the trick, please get in touch via live chat so that we can get you into your lesson ASAP!
