I'm a Tutor article! Everything you need to know about tutoring private lessons on MyTutor

How does MyTutor decide which tutors can tutor privately?

Currently, all of our new tutors start by teaching on our Schools Programme. It’s where we have the most lessons, so it’s a great way to rack up weekly lessons and build up experience. And help kids who really need it.

Each month, we check the number of opportunities available and make sure we have the right amount of tutors to take them.

If we’re seeing more parents looking for A-level Physics tutors, then we’ll invite more Physics tutors over to the private side. We want to avoid having too many tutors looking for work and unable to find it.

We start by inviting tutors who signed up earliest and have the strongest grades. Note that you’ll need a minimum of an A at A Level (or equivalent) to tutor on the private side.

Here are some useful pages about private lessons:

A key difference between the Schools Programme and private lessons is that you’ll be able to correspond with private customers directly. You’ll have full control over booking, rescheduling and (where relevant) refunding your lessons.

We understand that you won’t always be able to respond to every message you get, but we recommend you try your best to respond to messages within 24 hours.

If you’re going to be unable to respond for some time (for example if you’re going on holiday), it’s important to let parents know in advance.

Offering to tutor your MyTutor clients in any capacity outside of MyTutor is against our rules. It poses a safeguarding risk and isn’t fair to other tutors following the rules.

If you share your contact details, accept a parent’s or discuss going off the platform, you might find yourself getting removed from MyTutor. And here’s why our top tutors steer clear of it.
