Applying for your DBS Check with Verifile

I’m a tutor article! Find a walkthrough of the steps to your application for your DBS check with our partner Verifle.

Updated over a week ago

If you need to apply for a new DBS check, then you can do so easily with our partner Verifile*.

*Verifile are a company that specialises in running background checks. We work with them to help you get started as a tutor. You can read more about why we need you to be checked here.

And here’s their application process from start to finish…

  • Firstly, you’ll have clicked “I want to get a DBS check” on your MyTutor profile application.

  • You'll then need to fill in the details on the page.

    1. Double-check that you've entered everything correctly to avoid delays or failed checks.

    2. Make sure your application matches your documentation (for example include middle names if they’re on your ID and don’t use nicknames).

Disclaimer: It is an illegal offence to knowingly provide incorrect information when performing a criminal check in the UK. We know typos can happen, so make sure to read over and check all details are correct before submitting your application. Failure to do so will delay your application or may result in a failed DBS check.

  • When you’ve submitted your information and clicked “Apply for a DBS”, then you’ll need to agree to our Terms and Conditions.

  • And that’s it! Your application is completed, and your DBS should typically be with you within one working day after being approved..

Please note: Once your DBS has been completed, the information you added there will show up in your MyTutor account. But it’ll take a few extra days for your DBS to arrive with you by post.

What To Do If You Haven't Received Your DBS Certificate

Delays or issues in receiving your Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) certificate can be concerning, particularly if you need the document to begin tutoring or for other purposes. Here are the steps you can take:

  1. Check with Verifile:

    • If your DBS application was completed but the certificate hasn’t arrived, contact Verifile, the third-party provider responsible for processing and dispatching certificates. Ensure that your delivery address is accurate.

  2. Contact DBS Directly:

    • Reach out to the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) directly if you believe your certificate was lost in transit or sent to the wrong address.

    • You can check the current status of your certificate or request a reprint through the DBS Certificate Reprint Guide.

  3. Timelines and Expectations:

    • Certificates typically arrive within one working day after approval. If it has been over a week, escalate the issue by contacting the relevant provider.
