What do I need to know about Groups courses as a Parent?

I'm a Parent article! Everything you need to know about our Groups courses

Updated over a week ago

We ran our Groups courses over the Easter break, there will be no courses over the May half term.

We look forward to sharing more when we have our next Groups courses running

What are Groups courses?

With MyTutor Groups, students will learn from an expert tutor as part of a cohort of 6 students maximum. Lessons take place from Mon-Fri with an hour each day and are available in different levels so like-minded learners are grouped together.

Groups focus on one subject and exam level, from revising part of the curriculum in depth to practising exam techniques. Each Group is hosted in our interactive lesson space where students can get tailored and engaging learning in a small group environment.

Who are the Tutors?

Courses are taught by some of our most experienced tutors. They're all students and grads from top UK universities, and experts in what they're teaching. Because they're close in age to their students, they explain things in a way that makes tricky topics easy to understand - and they make it fun too. You’ll have the same tutor for every lesson and you can visit their tutor profile to learn more about their qualifications and tutoring experience before you book.

What qualifications do the tutors have?

Every tutor on our platform has top grades in the subjects that they're tutoring. We personally interview every tutor who works with MyTutor to make sure they’re subject experts, strong communicators and have a passion for teaching. Only 1 in 8 applicants make it on to our platform - so you know you’re getting someone who can really support your child's learning. Once we approve a tutor, they complete a range of training courses, including safeguarding and lesson planning.

How do you keep lessons safe?

All of our tutors have had an enhanced DBS check. We run all our lessons in our purpose-built, interactive lesson space (no Zoom or Teams) and record each session for safeguarding reasons. You can read more about how we keep students and tutors safe in MyTutor's Safeguarding policy.

How do I book a course?

To book a place, just add the Group or Groups you'd like to your basket, then follow the steps on the page to complete your payment. Once you've paid for a Group, we'll send you a confirmation email to let you know we've reserved your place. Before the Group starts, we’ll send you another email with a link to join the lesson space.

How much is a course?

Groups have a range of different timings and pricing options, starting from £16/lesson or £80/Group. These can all be found on the Groups page here. Just reach out to our support team if you’d like a hand finding the right course for you!

How interactive is each lesson?

Lessons are really interactive. Students can work in small groups with their peers led by a great tutor. Lessons will be taught in an online lesson space and the tutor uses resources (like past paper questions, diagrams and quizzes) specific to the course, which makes every lesson hands-on and interactive.

Will the students all be the same level?

Each Group is tailored to the age you select and you can choose ‘Foundation’ or ‘Higher’ for many subjects so you know that your child is learning at the right level for them.

While every student in a group will have slightly different knowledge and abilities, with their tutor there to answer their questions everyone can get the tailored support they need.

What if I experience technical issues?

If you run into any problems with the lesson space, our support team will be on-hand to get everything working. If this happens, reach out via our Livechat or on WhatsApp.

What happens if I can’t make my course?

You can cancel your Group free of charge up to the week before the start date. We can't offer refunds for last-minute cancellations. To cancel, just get in touch with our friendly support team. You can drop a message via our Livechat or on WhatsApp.

What if I want to cancel my course after it’s started?

If you've already started your Group and feel it's not for you, we'd love to hear your feedback so get in touch to let us know why you’re cancelling. We are unable to offer refunds once a Group has started.

Is my course guaranteed to run?

If your Group has fewer than 2 students a week before it is due to start, we'll have to cancel and refund your booking. Our support team will be more than happy to support you with finding another Group.

What happens if the tutor is unable to teach?

If your tutor is unable to teach a session, you will be offered a refund for that session only.

How can I flag a safeguarding concern?

We take online safety seriously at MyTutor and we are committed to ensuring the highest possible standard of safeguarding. If you have a safeguarding concern you can reach out to our support team via phone or livechat who can escalate this to our designated Safeguarding team.
