'What is an enhanced DBS Check?'
An Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check will include details of all convictions on record, either spent or unspent under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 - even minor convictions can be included on the Disclosure. All Enhanced DBS Disclosures involve an extra check with your local police force records in addition to checks with the Police National Computer and the government department lists held by the Department for Education and Skills and the Department of Health.
'Do I need to get an enhanced DBS check for private tuition on MyTutor?'
If you have already left university, or do not have access to your university email address you will be required to provide an enhanced DBS certificate. If you do not already have one, MyTutor can help you acquire one. While this is not a requirement for undergraduate tutors, parents give strong preference to those who have a DBS and this will also be to your advantage during your application.
'Do I need to get an enhanced DBS check to take part in the Schools Programme?'
On the Schools Programme you will be working with children under the age of 18, therefore we require all tutors to have a valid DBS with the Child Barred List Information disclosed, as it is required by law.
If you don’t have a valid DBS check, we can register an application for you! Please email firstname.lastname@example.org to register your interest and to attain a DBS. Please note that all our DBS checks are carried out by Onfido, so all charges will be handled by them directly.
