How long does it take to get my first online lesson?
Most tutors get their first lesson within a few weeks of signing up. However, tutoring is a seasonal business which peaks in the period before GCSEs and A-Levels and is quietest during the summer holidays. When you join the platform can affect how quickly you get your first lesson - joining in April may mean you find students more quickly than if you sign up in July.
How can I increase the chances of finding my first student?
There are a few ways you can be proactive on site:
- Having a strong profile
Parents and students tend to click on profiles with a well-worded resume, a clear and professional picture, and an engaging profile video. Check out our tips for getting more profiles views if you’re looking for ways to boost your profile.
- Responding quickly to tutor requests and messages
Tutor requests can get picked up pretty quickly, so if you’re looking for students, we recommend responding as soon as you receive the notification.
If you’ve been active for a while and are struggling to find your first student, get in touch with us and we’ll see what we can do to help.
How can I manage my workload and availability?
You can edit your availability by clicking on ‘my profile’ and scrolling down to the bottom of the page to edit the times you are generally free:
During busy times you may wish to set your status as ‘unavailable’ for new students. You can do this directly from your dashboard:
Remember, by taking a student on you are committing to helping them through to their exams - please ensure you have the availability to do so.
If you don't log in to your account for three weeks, your profile will automatically be made unavailable and it will be hidden from parents and students.
