Every tutor can set the prices that customers pay by choosing from seven bands ranging from £18 to £43 per hour. This means that tutors end up with between £10 and £30.50 per hour after MyTutor charges and VAT. You can find out more on the ‘My Prices’ section of your account.
How much should I charge?
We offer some guidance ('My Prices') on which price band you should choose at each stage of your tutoring career to maximise the chances of you getting work. Your charges should be based on your experience, academic achievements and reviews - but remember that you're free to choose any price band at any time.
When should I change my price band?
It's completely up to you when you change the price band you are on, you're free to do this whenever you like. If you have existing customers, they'll appreciate it if you can keep their prices stable for an academic year, particularly when their good feedback and reviews will have helped you build your profile. For this reason, they'll be automatically protected from the change. If you do decide to increase your prices for these students, you'll need to cancel and rebook any upcoming sessions with them. We recommend letting them know in advance so that they’re in the loop and not taken by surprise.
Things to consider when you change your price band:
- How does your experience compare to other tutors on that price band?
- Will you keep your existing customers on their current prices?
If you have questions about your price band please just in touch at support@mytutor.co.uk.
