What is it?
We’ve collaborated with educational experts and our tutor community to bring you tailored content, that’s aimed at supercharging your tutoring skills.
Our first course, ‘Tutoring Basics’ is now live. It’s aimed at preparing you for any first lesson with any school pupil. For new tutors, it contains everything you need to be ready for your first lesson. And if you’ve tutored with us before, it’s a great refresher ahead of the new academic term and it’ll help you make quicker progress with your pupils.
Why did we do it?
We’re in close contact with our tutor community and this is something you’ve wanted for a long time. It was created to help you to become an even better tutor while also developing skills that make you more employable.
On top of this, over 60% of you expressed an interest in teaching and we hope our training will give you a real insight into what might be to come while also improving your teaching skills.
Where can I find it?
As long as you’ve applied to work with school pupils and your DBS check has been approved, you’ll see a new tab appear on your profile, the MyTutor Academy. Here you’ll find our first-course ‘Tutoring Basics’, and any further content that we release down the line.
I’ve completed the course, but it doesn’t show 100% ‘Completed’ on the Academy tab of my dashboard, why?
We update course completion every 5 minutes, so you might not see the Academy page register your completion instantly. But check back in 5 and refresh your page, then you should see it say ‘Completed’.
Will there be a badge on my tutor profile that shows I’ve done my training?
Not right now, but this is definitely something we’re looking into for the future, as we create more content.
Will there be more content?
Yes! We have about 10 modules in the pipeline, they cover lesson planning, content ideas, wrapping up effectively and understanding mark schemes in different subjects to name a few. You’ll see these appear on your Academy time over the next few months, we’ll also notify you when we release them.
Where can I make a suggestion for content I’d like to see? Or give feedback in general?
You can make a suggestion and give feedback in the optional survey at the end of the ‘Tutoring Basics’ course or by emailing us at firstname.lastname@example.org with the subject line ‘Tutor training suggestion’.
And feel free to get involved in our facebook community, any and all questions and comments are welcome!
