Why are you launching this programme?
We’ve launched it to support you in your personal development, give you insights on how you’re doing, and offer the chance to make an even greater impact on your students than you already are. It’s also an opportunity for us to quality assure lessons for schools, keeping them happy with MyTutor’s service and continuing to provide work for tutors!
Are all my lessons being observed?
No - lesson recordings will be watched at random. And as this programme is starting on a small scale, not every tutor will be part of it. If you do receive feedback from us as part of this pilot, you may hear from us more than once to see how you’ve progressed.
Who’s watching the lessons?
Our lesson observers are some of our longest-serving school tutors. As well as having completed the highest number of school lessons on the platform, they’re also currently active on the site, and have top track records.
How will you decide which tutors are part of the pilot?
To make sure we reach different types of tutors, we’ll be selecting recordings at random. However tutors could hear from us more often if we notice they need a little extra support.
What do you mean by ‘need a little extra support’?
We want to see that tutors are passionate about their subject and committed to helping students achieve their learning goals by being reliable, having sound curriculum knowledge, and being confident and proactive in building positive relationships. If we notice any tutors who are struggling to show those skills and values in their tutorials, that’s when we’ll provide a little extra support. You can check out this article to find out more.
Will I be penalised for anything you see?
Our ambition isn’t to catch tutors out - it’s to support you in being the best tutor you can be, so you can make an even greater impact on your students than you already are.
If we come across any safeguarding or professionalism concerns, we will need to follow the necessary procedures and processes. But we expect the majority of feedback will be around areas for development in your tutoring, where you’ll be given guidance to help you improve your skills and further support your students.
Can I discuss my feedback with MyTutor?
Given the number of lessons we’re reviewing, unfortunately there won’t be the opportunity to discuss feedback in more detail. If you disagree with your feedback and you’d like to let us know more, you can fill out this form.
Can I opt-out of the pilot?
I’m afraid not - providing feedback is part of our new tutor support process, so it’s not something tutors can opt in or out of. Quality assurance of lessons is also something that’s really important to schools.
When surveyed, the majority of tutors who responded wanted us to introduce feedback, so we’re hopeful you’ll see the value in it too! It is worth noting that not every tutor will receive feedback in this iteration of the programme, so you may not hear from us.
Will private tutors get feedback?
This programme is only for tutors on the Schools Programme. Because private tutors operate in a self-employed capacity, personalised feedback isn’t something we’re able to provide.
