Why do you have an attendance and lateness policy for school opportunities?
Schools draw on a really limited budget to pay for their disadvantaged pupils to have tuition - so it’s your responsibility to make sure this important opportunity for them isn’t wasted. That’s why you must attend every lesson on time, and stay for the full 55 minute duration.
As a tutor, providing a professional service means:
- Arriving at every lesson before or as the lesson is due to start - even if your pupils sometimes arrive late
- Letting us know with as much notice as possible if you can’t make a lesson, so we can find a tutor to cover for you (see our Cancellation Policy)
- Arriving prepared to deliver a full 55 minute lesson
What is your attendance policy?
You must attend all your lessons for the full 55 minutes, unless you tell us in advance that you won’t be able to make it. If you’re unable to make a lesson for any reason, you must let us know (ideally with at least 6 hours notice - see our Cancellation Policy) so we can find another tutor to cover the lesson for you. You can let us know from your Bookings page.*
If you attend all your lessons on time, we'll give you access to more school opportunities.
*If you can’t access our website, please call the support team.
What happens if I miss a lesson?
If you miss a lesson without telling us in advance, we’ll be in touch via email to let you know and see how we can better support you to keep on top of your lessons.
If you miss further lessons within the next 30 days and don’t let us know beforehand, we’ll contact you again with a final warning.
If you continue to miss lessons without letting us know after our final warning, we’ll remove you from the platform and you’ll no longer be able to deliver lessons on MyTutor.
We will reset your missed lesson warnings if you attend all your lessons over a 30 day period.
What happens if I leave a lesson early?
MyTutor lessons are 55 minutes long - if you leave a lesson before it’s due to end, we’ll get in touch to let you know.
If you leave several lessons early within the 30 days after your first email, we’ll contact you again with a final warning - this may put you at risk of reduced school opportunities.
If you continue to leave lessons early within the 30 days following your final warning, you’ll be removed from the platform and no longer able to deliver lessons on MyTutor.
We will however reset your warnings if you consistently finish full lessons over a 30 day period.
What happens if the pupils leave the lesson before 55 minutes has passed?
We understand pupils sometimes have to leave lessons early. If this happens, the safest thing to do is remain in the lesson space till the lesson ends, otherwise you may be marked down as having ended the lesson early. If you forget to do this, just get in touch with our support team so we can make a note of it.
What is your lateness policy?
You must arrive on time for all of your lessons. Being on time means you’re in the lesson space when the lesson is due to start or before.
If you attend all your lessons on time, we'll give you access to more school opportunities. Remember to launch your lesson in good time, even if you think your pupils will be late. The system doesn’t know when your pupils are likely to arrive, so if you arrive late you’ll be marked as such - even if you get there before your pupils!
What happens if I’m late to a lesson?
If you’re late for a lesson, we’ll be in touch to let you know and provide tips to help you keep on top of your lessons.
If you’re late for more lessons in the 30 days after your first email, we’ll contact you again with a final warning.
If you continue to be late to further lessons within the 30 days following your final warning, we’ll remove you from the platform and you’ll no longer be able to deliver lessons on MyTutor.
We’ll reset your lateness warnings where you consistently arrive on time over a 30 day period.
I’ve arrived 5 minutes after the start time and I’m no longer able to launch the lesson, what’s happened?
If you haven’t launched the lesson after 5 minutes, we’ll assume that you won’t be attending and we’ll find a tutor to cover your lesson. When this happens, we’ll mark you down as having missed a lesson.
This is different from being late for a lesson.* See our attendance policy above for what this will mean for you, and learn more about our last minute cover system.
*You’re considered late to a lesson if you arrive after the lesson is due to start (e.g. entering the lesson space at 11:01 to an 11:00 lesson)
What if it’s not my fault?
As a tutor, you’re responsible for attending your lessons on time. That means:
- Making sure you have a stable internet connection and working computer ready for your lesson
- Planning your schedule so you have enough time between your lessons and other commitments (including accounting for bad traffic!)
- Taking time off if you’re struggling with health or other commitments
- Letting us know in advance of the lesson if you’re unable to make it (for example you’re ill)
However, we understand there can be exceptional circumstances that you do not have control over. If this is the case, please do get in touch with us so we can take your reasons into account.
