Why do you have a cancellation policy for school opportunities?
We understand that things come up and you won’t be able to make every lesson that you book in - particularly because rescheduling school lessons isn’t usually possible.
But it’s important to show commitment and reliability to our students. This policy aims to help them get the most out of their time with you.
What do I do if I can’t make a lesson or slot?
If you can’t make a lesson, let us know directly from your Bookings page* - just click “I can’t make it” next to the lesson you can’t attend, and follow the steps. It’s also possible to cancel an entire recurring slot from your Bookings page if you can no longer tutor that pupil or group.
*The only exception to this is A Level lessons, where you’ll need to reschedule individual lessons if you can no longer make the time. If you haven't heard back from the pupil before the lesson is due to start, please contact us to make sure the lesson isn't marked as 'missed'.
What is your cancellation policy?
We have the following rules around cancelling or requesting cover:
- If you can't make a lesson, you must let us know with at least 6 hours notice
- If you need a cover tutor for more than 20% of your lessons in a single slot, you’ll need to cancel the whole slot
- If you need a cover tutor for the first lesson in a single slot, you’ll need to cancel the whole slot
What happens if I don’t cancel in time?
If you frequently cancel or request cover for lessons with less than 6 hours' notice, you're at risk of reduced access to school opportunities.
However, it is always much better that you tell us in advance if you can’t make a lesson, even if that's with less than 6 hours to go. Please see our Attendance Policy for what happens when you miss a lesson without telling us.
The website is telling me I can’t request cover for my lesson. Why is this?
A cover tutor isn’t appropriate for all students, for example, students at A Level or some students with SEND (Special Educational Needs or Disabilities).
If this is the case and you can’t make the lesson, you’ll need to reschedule it for another time. Please message your student over the website and confirm a new time that works for both of you. Then get in touch with us at tutors@mytutor.co.uk or on live chat, and we’ll change the lesson time for you.
What if I need to cancel late for a reason outside my control?
As a tutor, you’re responsible for letting us know in plenty of time if you can’t make a lesson. That means:
- Planning ahead so you know you can manage your lessons alongside your other commitments
- Taking time off if you’re struggling with health or other commitments
However, we understand there can be exceptional cases that you may not have control over. If this is the case, please do get in touch with us so we can take your reasons into account.
