Platform update: We’re staying on the classic platform

I'm a Tutor article! Find answers to the top questions around the platform update to stay on the classic platform.

Updated over 2 weeks ago

Why is MyTutor staying with the classic platform instead of the new one?

We’re pausing the rollout of the new platform and continuing with the classic MyTutor platform because, after listening to your feedback and reviewing our future plans, it’s clear this is the best path forward for tutors and families.

We’re incredibly grateful for the time and effort many of you put into onboarding with the new system. But we also heard your concerns, especially around important features like parent choice and booking flexibility. Based on that, we agree that the classic platform still offers the most effective and user-friendly experience.

Here’s why this change makes sense:

  • More flexibility and visibility: The classic platform gives families more choice when selecting a tutor and gives tutors greater visibility.

  • Better fit for our growth strategy: Our new approach to bring in more families is built around the classic platform.

  • Ongoing improvements: We’re not standing still; we’ll continue improving the classic platform, with your feedback at the heart of those updates.

Ultimately, this change is about listening to you and choosing the platform that best supports tutors, families, and our shared goals, and that’s the classic MyTutor platform.

What happens to my account and lessons now that we’re returning to the classic platform?

What happens to your account and lessons depends on your current setup. Here’s what to expect:

  • If you’re using the new platform and have upcoming lessons:
Your upcoming lessons will be moved to the classic MyTutor platform starting from 1st July. If you do have lessons booked in on the new platform, some of you may have seen these being moved over to the classic platform already. From 4th July, all lessons will be held on the Classic platform.

  • You don’t need to do anything—we’ll handle the transition and make sure both your students and their lesson bookings move with you. We’ll be in touch throughout the process to provide support and answer any questions.

  • If you’re on the new platform but don’t have any upcoming lessons:
Since there are no upcoming lessons scheduled, your account on the new platform will be closed.
To continue tutoring and access new opportunities (including past students), just log in to the classic MyTutor platform.

  • If you were never on the new platform:
There’s no change for you. You’ll continue tutoring as normal on the classic platform, whether you’re working with school pupils or private students.

What happens to my parents and their lessons during the platform transition?

We’ll take care of the platform transition, moving parents, students and their lesson bookings across smoothly. There’s no action needed from you or from parents - we’ll keep everyone informed and supported along the way:

  • Their upcoming lessons will be automatically moved to the classic platform once agreed - they don’t need to do anything.

  • We’ll handle all the technical details to ensure students and lessons transfer without disruption.

  • Parents will continue booking and managing lessons as usual on the classic platform.

  • Throughout the process, we’ll keep parents informed and provide support to answer any questions they may have.

This way, parents can feel confident that their tutoring experience will continue without interruption or extra effort on their part.

When will my last payment be processed from the new platform?

Your last payment from the new platform will be processed on the Tuesday following the week after your last lesson on the new platform. For example, if your last lesson is on a Wednesday, you will receive your payment 13 days later. After this date, all payments will be handled through the classic MyTutor platform.

Will work continue on improving the classic platform?

Yes. We’ll continue improving the classic platform based on your feedback - just as we’ve always done. We’re committed to improving your experience so you can deliver great lessons with the tools you need.

I’m a schools-only tutor on the classic platform, can I start tutoring on the private platform?

If you’re currently a schools-only tutor on the classic platform, you will be invited to join the private tutoring side when there’s demand for your subjects. We’re carefully monitoring where students need support, and when the timing is right, we’ll offer you the opportunity to expand your tutoring to the private platform and support you along the way.

Thank you for your flexibility, valuable feedback, and the real difference you make in students’ lives every day.

I work on Bright Horizons, what will happen to my lessons?

If you work on Bright Horizons, your lessons will continue on the new platform at this time, so you can carry on with your scheduled lessons as normal.

Will you be letting parents know about the platform transition?

Yes, we will be informing parents about the platform transition. You don’t need to take any action; we’ll manage the entire process and ensure that your students and their lessons move smoothly with you. We’ll keep you and the parents updated throughout the transition and provide support every step of the way.

Why is there a lack of opportunities on the classic platform?

There are fewer opportunities on the classic platform right now because of the end of the academic year. This means both school and private tutoring opportunities might be quieter for a while. Some families will be looking for tutoring over the summer, but we expect to see more work towards the new academic term.

In the meantime, to give yourself the best chance of seeing new opportunities, we recommend you:

  • Boost your profile: This signals to us that you’re actively looking for work.

  • Be reliable: Attend all your lessons on time or notify us in advance if you need cover.

  • Confirm your availability: Keeping your schedule up to date helps us match you with the right students.

By following these suggestions, you let us know that you’re looking for work. And that helps us to match you with the best opportunities. Check out our Help page for more info on Boosting your profile.

We hope this guidance helps you navigate the quieter period.

As a reminder, here is how the classic platform will work for you as a tutor on the private side:

  • There are 5 price bands

  • Pay is fortnightly for the lessons you have taught

  • You manage your own booking requests by accepting or declining

  • You can view scheduled lessons and those that are yet to be paid

  • You can see any clashes that may happen with bookings when managing them

  • If there is a refund request from a parent, you are responsible for refunding a lesson after it has taken place from your bookings page. There are no auto refunds.

Thank you for your flexibility, valuable feedback, and the real difference you make in students’ lives every day.
