Why do we have tutor labels?

When customers reach our tutor listing pages, they’re presented with a wide range of tutors to choose from.

We make it clear that we have plenty of tutors available, of all budgets and backgrounds, so they’ll feel reassured that we’re sure to have one that meets their specific needs.

However, customer research told us that some feel overwhelmed with choice. And that’s why we add labels to some of the tutor profiles shown. They help customers differentiate and make a decision.

Where are they shown and who can see them?

Labels are only shown on our tutor listing pages, they aren’t shown on tutors’ specific profiles. New customers browsing tutor listing pages will see a handful of labels as they’re scrolling.

We use tutor labels to turn window shoppers, into paying customers for you.

What are the labels?

As of May 2024, the two labels we’re applying are:

  • Responds quickly

  • Super Tutor

Responds quickly - you’ll have this label if you’re replying to free meetings or lesson requests within 2 hours, 85% of the time (measured on a monthly basis). That 15% buffer allows for those times when parents message late at night, or you're in a lecture and can't check your phone. Responding quickly = more bookings. It’s not related to the chat response rate, which is inaccurate and will be removed soon!

Super Tutor - you’ll have this label if you’ve taught more than 500 lessons with MyTutor, with an average rating of 4.8+. Here’s a reminder of how reviews work, our policy for removing reviews and our tips to rack them up.

Note: These labels are subject to change in future.

If I don’t have labels now, how can I get them? How often will they be updated?

Responds quickly → this resets every 30 days, so as long as you’re replying to the free meeting or lesson request within 2 hours, 85% of the time, you’ll be eligible. We’ve added in that 15% buffer for those times when a parent sends a message late at night, and you respond first thing in the morning.

Super tutor → you’ll need to teach more lessons, and/ or increase your average rating. Advice on how to market yourself here, and how to rack up more reviews here.

What if I don’t have requests to respond to? / Requests are gone before I can respond?

At certain times of the year, there may be fewer requests to go around, giving you less chance to get a label. Rest assured that we’re always doing everything we can to bring you plenty of work, and to distribute it fairly.

Just remember that there are other ways to make yourself stand out. Here are our suggestions to improve your profile, secure some glowing reviews and increase your chances of getting lessons.

Will these labels affect the number of lessons I can get?

We’re adding labels to help parents to choose a tutor from the crowd. So yes, having one will increase your chances of getting picked.

We’re encouraging the tutors who bag those lessons to hide their profiles when they’re at full capacity, to remove them from the list and give opportunities to others who are looking.

Remember - here’s what else you can do to get more lessons.

Will labels affect my earnings as a tutor?

No, labels won’t change the amount you’re able to charge.

What happens if my average rating drops below 4.8 as a "Super tutor"?

If your average rating falls below 4.8, you’ll lose the "Super Tutor" label. If you believe a review is unfair and should be removed, have a look at this advice.

I don’t have a label, am I at a disadvantage?

Labels are designed to help parents see at a glance the qualities we know they value. But if you don’t have a label, you’ll still be able to outline your strengths as a tutor across your profile.
