How do I report a Safeguarding concern?

I'm a Tutor article! Learn how to report a safeguarding concern about a pupil and what happens after you submit it.

As a tutor working with children and young people, you have a responsibility to report anything that concerns you. This could relate to a school pupil or private student, and you are not expected to handle it alone.

Our dedicated Safeguarding team will review every concern you report and handle it sensitively and confidentially.

How do I report a safeguarding concern?

If you are concerned about a pupil or student's wellbeing, or they disclose something that worries you, report it as soon as possible. Try to record the information as accurately as you can.

Report your concern using our secure safeguarding platform, CPOMS (Child Protection Online Management System).

The reporting process is the same for all safeguarding concerns, regardless of whether they happened during a Schools Programme lesson, private lesson, or group lesson.

How do I use CPOMS for the first time?

Before you can report a safeguarding concern through CPOMS, you will need to set up your password.

To set your password:

  1. Access the CPOMS portal using the CPOMS login page.

  2. Click ‘Forgotten password or using CPOMS for the first time’.

  3. Enter the personal email address you registered with on MyTutor.

  4. A link will be sent to this email address so you can set your password.

Once you have set your password, you can log in to CPOMS and submit safeguarding concerns.

What happens after I submit a concern?

Once you've submitted a concern through CPOMS, our Safeguarding team will receive an alert and begin reviewing it.

From your CPOMS homepage, you can view the concerns you've submitted, along with the pupil's details, the status of the concern, and the member of the Safeguarding team managing it.

If there's an update, we'll email you and ask you to log in to view it. You'll usually receive an update within 24–48 hours.

During busy periods, concerns assessed as low risk may take up to 3 days to receive a response.

Can I edit a concern after I've submitted it?

Once you've submitted a concern, you can't edit it.

If you need to add more information or make a correction, submit a new concern and let us know. We'll merge the reports for you.

Should I report a concern if I'm not sure?

If you're unsure whether to report a concern, please submit it. Our Safeguarding team will review every concern and take the appropriate action where needed.
