School tutors are paid using a performance-based pay band system. As you complete more recurring school tutoring slots, you earn coins that increase your pay band and hourly pay.

Which pay band will I start on?
New school tutors start on the Base pay band.
You can check your current pay band by logging into your tutor account, selecting your profile icon in the top-right corner, and opening the School Pay Bands page.
How do I move up a pay band?
You move up a pay band automatically when you reach the required coin threshold.
Once you reach the required number of coins, your pay will automatically update to reflect your new pay band.
How do school tutor coins work?
You earn one coin for every lesson you complete in a recurring school tutoring slot.
Example:
If you accept a recurring slot with 10 lessons, deliver 9 lessons, and request cover for 1 lesson, you will earn 9 coins once the recurring slot is completed.
To earn coins for your recurring slot, you must:
Arrive on time for every lesson.
Submit the lesson report within 24 hours of the lesson ending.
You must complete both of these requirements for every lesson in the recurring slot to earn your coins.
Which lessons earn coins?
You only earn coins for completing lessons in recurring school tutoring slots.
You do not earn coins for:
Cover lessons.
Private lessons.
Lessons delivered in a recurring slot that you cancel.
How is my pay calculated if a pupil is late or misses a lesson?
MyTutor ensures school tutors are fairly compensated for their time and preparation, even when a pupil does not attend their scheduled lesson.
What is the 30-minute rule?
If a pupil has not joined a scheduled school lesson within the first 30 minutes, they are unlikely to attend.
The payment rules are:
If the pupil joins within the first 30 minutes:
Continue the lesson as normal. You will be paid for the full lesson. If the pupil does not join within the first 30 minutes:
You can leave the lesson space after 30 minutes. You will be paid for 30 minutes of your time.
The 30 minutes is counted from the scheduled lesson start time, not from when you enter the lesson space. Joining early does not extend the 30-minute period.
Example:
If your lesson starts at 10:00 am and your pupil has not joined by 10:30 am, you can leave the lesson space and will be paid for 30 minutes.
What happens while I am waiting for a pupil?
The lesson recording starts from the moment you enter the lesson space, even if your pupil has not joined yet.
While waiting, you may receive an in-lesson cover opportunity. This happens when another pupil is waiting for a tutor while you are available in the lesson space.
If you accept an in-lesson cover opportunity, you will receive an additional £10 payment for delivering the lesson without prior preparation.
Do I need to report if a pupil does not attend?
No. You do not need to contact MyTutor to report a pupil absence.
Teachers can monitor pupil attendance, and MyTutor follows up if a pupil appears to be struggling to attend their lessons.
What happens if I cancel or miss a recurring slot?
If you cancel a recurring slot, you will not receive any coins for that slot.
You must cancel a recurring slot if you exceed the cover request limit. If this happens, you will not receive any coins from the slot.
If you miss multiple lessons without letting MyTutor know, you will be removed from the recurring slot. This will count as a cancelled slot, and you will not receive any coins.
The cover request limit exists because pupils make the most progress when they have consistency with the same tutor. If a pupil repeatedly has cover tutors, this can affect their learning progress.
If a school cancels the remaining lessons in a recurring slot, or reschedules them to a time you cannot attend, MyTutor will still count this as a completed slot on your behalf.
In this situation, you will receive coins for lessons you attended and completed before the cancellation or reschedule.
You will not receive coins for lessons that were cancelled, rescheduled, or not completed due to technical or site issues.
Why are coins only awarded for recurring slots?
Coins are awarded only for recurring school tutoring slots because pupils make the most progress when they have consistent tutoring with the same tutor.
The performance-based pay band system rewards tutors who can commit to completing a full recurring slot and provide a consistent tutoring experience.
