How do I use the lesson space?

The MyTutor lesson space includes a range of features and tools to help you teach effectively. You can use whiteboards, documents, coding tabs, file uploads, video layouts, screen sharing and pre-made resources during your lessons.

You can also save the lesson space or individual whiteboards so that you can keep and reuse your lesson materials.

To launch a lesson in the lesson space, log in to your MyTutor account, find your lesson and click “Launch”.

You can have three different types of tabs open in a lesson space:

You can have multiple tabs open at the same time. To create a new tab, click the “+” button in the top-left corner and select the type of tab you want.
​

You can upload files and learning materials to the lesson space using the “+” icon in the left-hand corner.
​

You can also use the Upload Image or PDF button in the whiteboard toolbar, or drag and drop documents directly onto a whiteboard.

Once a file has been uploaded to a whiteboard, you can annotate it using the tools in the toolbar.

Yes. You can add pre-made worksheets and images to your lesson using the Insert Resource option.
​

Click Insert Resource to open the Resource Drawer, choose the worksheet or image you want to use, and it will be added to the whiteboard. You can then resize and annotate the resource.
​

You can choose between three video layouts from the top of the right-hand sidebar:

You can double-click any video to view it in full-screen mode.

As a tutor, you have several tools to help you manage students/pupils and keep lessons running smoothly.
​

All tutors are automatically assigned the Leader role in a lesson. Leading Mode is automatically enabled and is recommended for most lessons.
​

Leading Mode allows you to control what students/pupils see.
​

When Leading Mode is enabled:

You can turn off Leading Mode if you want students/pupils to work independently on different questions or areas of the board.

Go to People by clicking the People icon in the top-right corner. Click the three dots next to Main Room to:

You can also manage these settings for individual students/pupils.
​

To prevent students/pupils from editing the lesson space, go to the People section, click the three dots and select Disable Editing for All.
​

You can then give individual students/pupils editing permission by clicking their name and selecting Enable Editing.
​

You can also manage editing access by clicking the crown icon and turning on Read-Only Mode.
​

You can lock a tab or its contents by right-clicking the name of the tab.
​

You can also lock individual items by clicking Lock on the floating menu next to the item.
​

You can share your screen directly from the lesson space by clicking the screen-sharing icon on the right-hand sidebar.

You can choose to share:

We recommend sharing an application window or browser tab rather than your entire screen to avoid the infinity mirror effect.
​

When you start screen sharing, you will automatically enter presenter mode. If a student shares their screen, double-click the shared screen to expand it.
​

The whiteboard can expand infinitely, giving you more space for flexible teaching.
​

If you lose your place on the whiteboard, click the Zoom icon and select Zoom to Fit to centre the content on the board.
​

You can also bring students/pupils to your current position on the board by making sure Leading Mode is enabled.
​

You can download the entire lesson space as it appears at the time you export it.

You can download an individual whiteboard as a PDF document.

Once downloaded, you can use the saved lesson materials again in a future lesson space.

You can upload a previously downloaded lesson space to a trial lesson space to access files from a previous lesson, including documents that may no longer be available in the original lesson space.
