How do I request cover for my school lesson?
How do I request cover for my school lesson?

I'm a Tutor article! If you can’t reschedule your lesson, you’ll need to ask for cover to make sure your pupil isn’t left without a tutor

Updated over 6 months ago

It’s really important to do your best to attend all of your lessons with your pupils. If you can't make a lesson, check whether you can reschedule your lesson here or see how to request cover below.

Remember that there's a limit on the number of lessons you can request cover for in a slot.

If you require more cover than your cover allowance (outlined in our Schools Programme Cancellation Policy), you'll risk losing the entire slot of lessons. Please carefully review the timings of a slot before accepting.

To request cover:

  • Log in and head to your Bookings page

  • Click the ‘Edit’ button and select ‘I can’t make this lesson’ from the drop-down menu.

  • Check the date and time of the lesson you can’t make in the pop-up and select ‘Cancel Lesson’.

  • Submit a cover report.

I can’t request cover:

You might get a pop-up letting you know that you can’t request cover. This is either because this is the first lesson with your pupil, or you have already missed too many lessons in the slot. You’ll need to:

  • Select ‘Find a new tutor’, so we can search for another tutor to take the rest of the slot.

  • Or think about whether you can make the lessons if you want to keep the slot.

Writing my cover report:

You’ll either:

  • Be prompted to write the cover report when you cancel the lesson, if you need cover for your next lesson.

  • Be prompted to write the cover report at the end of the lesson that comes right before the cover lesson.

Make sure that you’re familiar with our Schools Programme Cancellation Policy, which answers lots of common questions and has a lot more detail.
