Adyen Payment Provider FAQs

Important note - the deadlines mentioned below are only for existing tutors.

Any new tutor that hasn't completed the 'payment details' module in their onboarding hub, will be required to complete their Adyen setup before they can start tutoring.

Why is MyTutor moving from Opayo (a.k.a Sagepay) to Adyen?

We’re moving to Adyen to make tutor payments more reliable, while also making payments easier for parents.

Adyen is a trusted payment provider that supports thousands of organizations, including the UK Government.

What do I need to do to set up my Adyen account?

Log in to your MyTutor account and follow the link in the banner to set up your Adyen account.

You’ll need to:

  1. provide your bank details;

  2. submit identification documents;

  3. answer a few basic questions so Adyen can verify your details.

The setup should take only a few minutes.

When is the deadline for setting up my Adyen account?

You’ll need to complete your Adyen setup by 31st October.

We recommend completing it as soon as possible so there’s no disruption to your tutoring or payments.

Why do I need to provide identification documents, and which ones will I need?

Adyen needs to verify your details before it can process your payments.

This is a standard requirement for payment providers and helps them meet their compliance and anti-money-laundering responsibilities.

So keep your ID, personal information, and bank information handy. We’ve tested it for you, and the fastest way through the Adyen verification process is by submitting a picture of your ID and logging into your bank.

What do the different Adyen account statuses mean?

My payment details are under review

Adyen has received your details and is reviewing them. There’s nothing you need to do. We’ll email you once the review is complete.

Adyen needs more information

Adyen needs some additional information to verify your details.

Log in to your MyTutor account and open Adyen using the banner at the top of the page . You’ll be able to see what information is required after navigating to Adyen.

My payment details have been accepted

Your payment details have been verified and accepted.

If you’re an existing tutor, you’re all set to continue tutoring. If you’re a new tutor, log back into your account to check your next onboarding task.

What happens if I don’t set up my Adyen account before the deadline?

If you don’t complete the setup by the deadline, we’ll suspend your MyTutor account because you won’t be able to receive payment for your lessons.

We’ll send you reminders and may also call you before the deadline, but you should complete the setup as soon as possible to avoid any interruption.

You can still complete the setup after the deadline.

Once your payment details have been set up successfully, we’ll lift the suspension so you can continue tutoring.

I only tutor on the Schools platform. Do I need to do anything now?

If you choose to only use the Schools platform, you should still set up your Adyen account.

If you tutor on both platforms, you’ll only need to set up your Adyen account once.

How will I be paid after the move to Adyen?

Adyen will soon process your tutor payments using the bank details you provide during setup.

We’ll confirm the full payment schedule before the change goes live.

Will the move affect any payments I’m already waiting for?

No. You should continue to get paid for all your tutoring earnings as expected. If you notice discrepancies, please don't hesitate to reach out to us.

Can I change my bank details later?

Yes you can. If you would like to change your bank details on file with Adyen, just navigate to your ‘Payment Details’ page from your tutor home page. There will be a link that takes you to your Adyen page.

Am I still responsible for reporting my earnings to HMRC?

Yes. Moving to Adyen doesn’t change your responsibility for reporting your earnings and paying any tax that may be due.
