The National Tutoring Programme (NTP) has specific safeguarding and compliance requirements for tutors who work with schools.
To access school opportunities through MyTutor, you must meet all of the required compliance checks.
These requirements apply to school tutoring only. They do not affect your ability to tutor private students through MyTutor.
What do I need to be eligible for school opportunities?
To check whether you are eligible for school opportunities, MyTutor checks that you have:
Completed Prevent training. This is included in your Tutoring Basics training
An Enhanced DBS check:
Existing tutors: Your DBS check must be less than 36 months old, or you must be registered with the DBS Update Service. This applies unless you have had a break in service.
New tutors: Your DBS check must be less than 12 weeks old, unless you are registered with the DBS Update Service.
Two completed and approved reference checks
A complete five-year address history.
Not lived at a permanent address in the same overseas country for more than three continuous months during the past five years.
If you do not meet any of these requirements, you will not be eligible for school opportunities until you provide the missing information or complete the required action.
What is a break in service?
A break in service means being non-compliant for 12 or more weeks.
If you have been non-compliant for 12 or more weeks, you may need to complete a new DBS check.
However, if you are registered with the DBS Update Service and can provide your original DBS certificate, you may not need a new DBS check.
How long does it take for my compliance status to update?
Once you have completed all the required actions, it may take a couple of hours for your compliance status to update.
The compliance system runs checks every hour.
Once all the actions shown on your banner have been completed, the banner should disappear, and you should become eligible to see school opportunities again within one hour.
Why can I no longer see school opportunities?
You cannot access school opportunities if you are not fully compliant with the requirements for school tutoring.
The National Tutoring Programme (NTP) was launched by the Department for Education (DfE) in 2020 to support schools and local authorities in providing tuition to students.
So far, MyTutor tutors have helped more than 60,000 children receive tutoring through the NTP. Without this funding, many of these children may not have received tutoring.
For MyTutor to continue as an NTP partner, and for tutors to continue working with schools, we need to keep our policies and procedures in line with the latest Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE) legislation.
As a result, tutors cannot access school opportunities until they meet all the required compliance checks. Once you become fully compliant, you will be able to see school opportunities again.
Why have the school tutoring requirements changed?
The requirements have changed because MyTutor needs to keep its policies and procedures aligned with the latest safeguarding legislation and requirements for the National Tutoring Programme.
These changes help MyTutor meet its requirements as an NTP partner and ensure that tutors working with schools meet the required safeguarding standards.
Do these requirements affect my private tutoring?
No. These compliance requirements apply to school opportunities only.
You can continue tutoring your private students and accepting new private tutoring opportunities through MyTutor.
