What are MyTutor Memberships?
They’re an option for customers who want to get more for their money, and tutors looking for more stable income throughout the academic year.
As a private tutor, you can decide whether to try this option, or continue just working on private, recurring lessons.
In a lot of ways, things are pretty similar. You’ll tutor students privately, using the same lesson space. You’ll be self-employed, choosing which customers you want to work with and keeping the flexibility to arrange lessons to suit your schedule.
But with a membership, customers have several plans to choose from. And the more lessons they commit to, the better value it’ll be for them. Plus they'll get access to some special features.
Why are we launching them?
We hear that you’re looking for more work. And as a business, bringing you more opportunities works hand in hand with our mission to impact more learners' lives.
Memberships = more lessons booked overall, which is a recipe for success:
You get consistent income from a term’s worth of lessons
Students make more progress and establish healthy learning habits
Customers get better value for money
MyTutor reinvests more back into the business, to bring you a better platform, and more work, for years to come.
How much do they cost? And how does this affect my earnings?
The more lessons customers commit to, the less they’ll pay per lesson. We make that possible by doing two things:
Reducing the fee we charge each lesson
Discounting your tutoring fee per lesson
We’ll be able to reduce our fee, as more lessons will be booked in total.
Likewise, your earnings per lesson reduce for longer plans, but you’ll stand to take more home overall and have more commitment from your customers.
When can customers buy them?
From the 9th of July 2024.
Where can customers find them?
On a seperate website where we can launch and improve quickly. It's custom-built to support long-term learning.
Click here to read about how you can find work on the memberships platform.
What else is new with memberships?
Free meetings are called Study Plan Consultations
They're still free, 15-minute meetings. But they're more than just an intro. It’s time to come up with a long-term game plan together. Read more about how to handle them here.
Customers unlock special features
The first one available is Study Plans, where students rate their confidence levels across all topics in a particular subject.
They'll show you what to focus on first, reducing your planning time. They'll help students track their progress and boost their confidence. And they'll make it clear to customers that they're getting great value for their money.
The features are designed to supplement learning and maximise the impact of your tuition. To find out when we release more, keep an eye out for our weekly tutors’ update. We send it to you via email, when you log in and in the tutor community.
You may notice some features you love aren’t available on the new platform yet. We’re building this from the ground up, so they’re likely already on our to-do list.
Lesson reports are on the horizon, but in the meantime, sending a quick post-lesson message highlighting what you covered, and what's next, is sure to keep your customers happy.
If you have suggestions, click the “Feedback” button as you use the platform.
Pre-payment protects you from last-minute cancellations
If a customer cancels within 24 hours, you’ll still be paid (and don’t have to show up).
And you’ll still have control. If you’d prefer to refund the customer, you can choose to cancel the lesson yourself to refund their payment as lesson credit. Find out more about that here.
Your earnings and payment will work differently.
How do I join the new platform?
We’ll invite private tutors in small batches over the next 6 months, starting with the most popular subjects (Maths and Science). So keep an eye out for an invite email from us.
Can I teach regular lessons alongside memberships?
Yes, you can take on new students in the usual way from www.mytutor.co.uk You have the choice to work across both (or either of) the platforms.
And if you decide to work on both, we recommend keeping a note of which customers you have on each site. To avoid any mix-ups when logging in.
